RWA Rail has recently been involved in numerous studies into proposed new stations. A typical example was Aylesbury Vale Parkway, a study undertaken for Laing Rail, described below. Others have been Coleshill, Reading Green Park, Reading ‘master plan’, Haxby, Southend Airport, two stations on the Aire Valley Line and Laurencekirk (near Aberdeen). The objective of this assignment was to devise and performance test a train plan which would serve a new station on the line from Aylesbury to Quainton Road and Calvert. The requirements of the train plan were that it should: At least maintain a level of performance equal to that currently achieved by Chiltern (or that predicted for the post-Evergreen 2 timetable and resource plan) Not diminish Chiltern’s ability to properly maintain its rolling stock fleet Identify additional rolling stock and driver requirements Underwrite existing or add to timetable operability Maximise the efficiency and value of the infrastructure provided. A RailSys model of the area was created, and set up with the current timetable to Aylesbury (and freight services to Calvert. Alternative infrastructure option models were created and these were also set up with timetables designed by RWA Rail using RailSys’ built-in timetable editor. Each model was then run with perturbation data from TRUST, to check for robustness. The performance modelling results were used to inform both the infrastructure planning, and the train service planning components of the project. The Aylesbury Vale Parkway scheme has recently been approved by DfT. |
