blank This study was commissioned by the SRA to give an indication of the performance benefits of two infrastructure proposals which form part of the South Erewash Re-signalling Scheme.

Two proposals were under consideration in this study; redoubling the single lead junction at Trent East Junction, and upgrading signalling and line speeds between Loughborough North Junction and Trent South Junction on the slow lines.

A RailSys model of the area was created and the current timetable input. Alternative infrastructure option models were created and these were also set up with the current timetable. Each model was then run with perturbation data from TRUST, to check for robustness.

The simulation statistics showed worthwhile performance improvements for most services as a result of redoubling Trent East Junction. The results also showed that increasing the line speed of the Down Goods Loop to 40mph would improve the average lateness of the Derby to Nottingham Central Trains service group.

The results of this study will be used by Network Rail to inform signalling design in the South Erewash area.
