blank RWA Rail has worked extensively with Network Rail on a comprehensive review of the West Coast Main Line 2008 timetable. By developing large-scale RailSys models, we tested the performance (in terms of freedom from conflicts and robustness) of the 2008 timetable on the proposed enhanced infrastructure. These RailSys models were some of the most comprehensive constructed in the UK to date and were among the first to use all of the capabilities of the new (UK-specific) Version 6 of RailSys.

The purpose of the study was twofold:- firstly to use the detailed signal berth level conflict checking inherent in RailSys as an additional validation stage during timetable development; and secondly, by running multi-day simulations of the timetable, to understand the performance implications of the timetable change.
